Learning Opportunities

Here at Gateway America, we believe in facilitating learning beyond the classroom. Here’s a look at learning opportunities we offer outside of regular academics:

FIELD TRIPS
We offer field trips throughout the year to augment classroom learning and expose students to new locations, topics and ideas both near and far. Past field trips have included team building weekend trips to Camp Cho-Yeh near Livingston and camping trips to Enchanted Rock where students learn to appreciate the outdoors and are challenged physically through rock climbing and rappelling. We also offer trips out of state or abroad and have taken students on groundbreaking experiences to Washington DC, England and Italy. Our program also includes short trips designed to enrich student life, including the Houston Zoo, rodeos, and area museums.

COLLEGE COURSES
The flexibility of our learning environment allows us to offer college coursework to students who wish to expand their course load or challenge themselves beyond our high school curriculum. Because our students set their own learning schedule and may work at an accelerated pace, they can begin college courses as juniors and seniors. This opportunity challenges our students and adds a competitive edge to their college admissions.

SAT/ACT PREP
Many of our students are interested in attending college after high school, and high-quality, comprehensive test prep is one of the ways Gateway America helps students achieve their educational goals. Our program specializes in highly personalized SAT/ACT tutoring. We offer both small group prep and one-on-one tutoring. Students can complete a multi-week program that begins by identifying individual student weaknesses and helping them to improve their testing performance through tailored instruction.

SUMMER PROGRAM
Our Summer Program is ideal for students who are looking to catch up, get ahead or simply want extra study to retain information they’ve already learned. This program is an extension of our regular school year curriculum and serves students with a variety of needs. We offer several three-week-long sessions throughout the summer. Students may attend one session or all sessions, depending on their goals.
