CORE SUBJECTS
Gateway America offers an outstanding academic program that combines several curriculums to allow for a wide variety of learning styles, and prepares students for college admissions. Our Literature program follows the classical approach, which results in students consistently scoring higher on SAT essays. We use several math curriculums and will choose the appropriate one based on the student's needs. Incoming students usually start with an introductory load of three courses. As the student becomes confident in their achievement, and learns how to better manage their time and responsibilities, he or she may add more courses. Most students pursue four courses at a time, and we also offer the option for more. Capable students may take up to six courses at a time, usually in the form of college courses.


STUDENT-DRIVEN LEARNING
At Gateway America, students set and achieve their own academic goals. Students work with teachers to design their own lessons, and set their own goals for how they want to work through the material. At the beginning of every day, students revisit these goals, and write out a list of what they plan to accomplish. As students complete lessons and move on in the coursework, they continue to update and revise their goals. This process teaches them valuable self-management skills.


BUILDING SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS
Our students have the freedom to work at their own pace, and we’ve found this freedom is incredibly motivating for children of this age. Through planning their own lessons and setting goals, our students develop a sense of ownership in their education. Having a sense of purpose is important to young people, and we strive to nurture that. For a high school student, managing your own learning, and revisiting your goals daily, helps build and reinforce this sense of purpose. Independent and purpose-driven learning creates happier students and a more positive learning environment.
